Copies

Add a copy on a drive, card or folder

Adding a copy takes four short steps, and nothing is written until you confirm the preview.

Updated November 5, 2026 · For Keepfin 1.0

Open Add a copy#

On Windows

Go to Settings → Storage & copies, find Your library and press Add a copy. If your library is only on this PC, Keepfin also offers Keep a copy…. Once you have copies, Compare copies shows a grid of what each one holds.

On Android

Go to Settings → Storage & copies and press Add a copy. Copies work on a memory card, a USB drive, any folder on the phone, a cloud account, or a paired device.

On Windows, if a drive that already holds a Keepfin copy of this library is connected, Keepfin offers it: A drive with a Keepfin copy of this library is connected, with Add it.

The steps#

  1. Where should the copy live?: A drive or folder, A cloud account or A paired device. For a drive, press Choose a folder…. Keepfin makes a folder named Keepfin there, away from what is already in it, and the folder cannot be inside your Keepfin folder. Keepfin shows free space and tells you if the folder already has things in it. It leaves those alone.
  2. What should it hold?: Everything (including what you add later) or only some of it. You can also include Lyrics, subtitles and info files and Music videos. See What a copy keeps.
  3. How should it keep in step?: Backup, Two-way or Mirror. Read the modes first. Here you also give the copy a Name you will recognise, switch Sync by itself on or off (when the drive is connected and when your library changes) and, on Windows, choose a Schedule.
  4. The first sync: a plan made by the same engine that will run it. Check it, then press Add this copy. On Android the last button reads Start the first sync.

Reading the first sync preview#

The preview lists what would be copied, with file counts and sizes. The first sync only adds files. Nothing is removed or replaced until you confirm, and any difference found on the drive is shown, not overwritten. Keepfin also warns if there is not enough free space, and tells you if files found on the drive would be added to your library.

A large first sync can show Needs your OK and waits until you confirm.

SD cards and USB drives#

On Windows

Drives are recognised by an id that Keepfin keeps on the drive, not by their letter, so a different letter later is fine. A drive formatted as FAT32 cannot store files over 4 GB. A file that cannot be copied is reported on the copy as Some files not copied, with the reason.

On Android

Choose the card or USB drive in Android's folder picker and pick or create a folder on it. If the card is taken out, the copy shows "The folder or card is not connected. Nothing is missing." and continues when it is back.
