Downloading
The download queue
Downloads wait in a queue and run a few at a time. You stay in control of every one.
Pause, resume, cancel, retry#
- Pause stops a download and keeps what it has so far. Resume continues from there.
- Cancel stops it. Retry starts a failed download again.
- For a collection, Retry failed retries only the items that did not finish.
Keepfin keeps your queue when you close it. It continues with unfinished downloads next time.
How many at once#
Both apps run 3 downloads at a time by default. You can change this in Settings → Downloads → Parallel downloads (1 to 6 on Windows, 1 to 4 on Android). Android can also wait for Wi-Fi: Download on Wi-Fi only holds queued downloads while you are on mobile data.
If YouTube starts limiting your network, Keepfin runs fewer at once for a while, then goes back to your setting.
Automatic retries#
If a download fails for a reason that often clears up (a network hiccup, a temporary site problem, a rate limit), Keepfin tries again by itself, up to three times, after 5, 15 and 30 seconds. The job shows a note such as "Retrying in 12 s (2 of 3)". Failures that need you, such as sign-in, a removed video or a full disk, fail at once with a clear message. Pausing, cancelling or pressing Retry ends the automatic sequence; pressing Retry starts a fresh one.
When a rate limit is the cause, Keepfin waits longer between tries. A failure notification only appears after the last retry.
Removing history#
Removing a finished download from the list keeps the file. Deleting the file is a separate, confirmed action in your library. A download that is still active cannot be removed from history.
