General#

Is Keepfin free?

Yes. There is no account, trial or premium tier.

Does it need an account?

No. Keepfin works on your device without a Keepfin account. A cloud service is only used if you choose to connect one.

Which devices does it run on?

Windows 10 and 11, and Android 8 or later on phones and tablets.

The Keepfin folder#

Where are my files?

In your Keepfin folder, in subfolders for each space. See What is inside the Keepfin folder.

I used an older Keepfin. Do I lose anything?

No. If Keepfin finds files from an earlier version, a setup window brings your files, history, playlists and favourites into one folder, checking every file before the old one is removed. See First start.

Can I edit the .keepfin folder?

No. It holds your library data. Leave it to Keepfin.

Copies and cloud#

What is the difference between backup, two-way and mirror?

A backup keeps earlier versions. Two-way keeps both sides in step. A mirror matches exactly what you chose to keep. See the three modes.

Can Keepfin see all my cloud files?

No. It sees only its own folder: for Google Drive the files it creates, for Dropbox its app folder. See Cloud accounts.

What if a cloud sign-in expires?

Keepfin shows Sign in again. Press it and finish in your browser. Nothing is missing.

Devices#

Do my devices need the internet to talk to each other?

No. They connect directly over your network. Away from home you can reach one by its address, for example with Tailscale. See Away from home.

Can someone on my Wi-Fi pair with my PC?

Only if you confirm it. Pairing needs the same six numbers confirmed on both devices, or a single-use QR code you scanned yourself. See Privacy and security.

Privacy and updates#

What does Keepfin send?

Nothing to a Keepfin server. It contacts the sites you download from, an optional lyrics service, GitHub for updates, and any cloud service you connect.

Windows says the publisher is unknown. Is it safe?

Current Windows builds are not code-signed, so the warning appears. It is not a verdict either way. Compare the checksum on the download page.
