Getting started
Updates
Keepfin has two kinds of updates: the app itself, and the download engine inside it that keeps up with the sites you use.
The app#
When a new version is available, both apps show a marker in the header. After you update, a one-time What's new note tells you what changed. The same notes are on the changelog and the release page.
On Windows
Keepfin Setup updates itself from the official release. In Settings → About Keepfin, under Updates, press Check for updates and then download the update. When it is ready, Restart and update closes Keepfin, installs the update without any installer pages and opens Keepfin again by itself.
The Portable EXE is updated by hand: close it and replace the file with the newer one from the download page. The MSI is updated by installing the next MSI over it.
On Android
Android updates install over the existing app from the official release. Choose Update now when Keepfin offers it, or use Settings → About Keepfin and Check for updates. You can also install a newer APK from the download page yourself.
The download engine#
Sites change often, and a stale engine is the most common reason a download stops working. Keepfin checks for a newer engine about once a day, in the background, and you can update it by hand any time.
On Windows
Look in Settings → About Keepfin. The Download engine section shows that it updates automatically and when it last checked, with a Check now button and an Update automatically switch. The release channel (Stable or Early access) is under Advanced. The engine only appears elsewhere when a download is waiting for it, or when it needs attention.
On Android
Look in Settings → About Keepfin under Updates: Download engine shows the engine version and when it last checked, with Check now, an Update automatically switch (at most once a day) and the Engine channel (Stable or Early access).
When an engine update is part of the fix#
If a download fails in a way an engine update may cure, Keepfin updates the engine and then retries. That is why you may see a note such as "Updating engine, then retrying" on a job. See Troubleshooting for errors that need you.
