Copies

Earlier versions, trash, Restore and Clean up

Keepfin is careful with anything that gets replaced or removed. It sets the old bytes aside first.

Updated November 5, 2026 · For Keepfin 1.0

Backups keep earlier versions#

On a backup, a file that changes or is removed is kept as an earlier version until you clean up. The copy shows how many versions are kept, and how many belong to deleted files.

Restore#

  1. Open the backup and go to its Earlier versions tab (on Android press Restore on the backup's card). The drive has to be connected.
  2. Find the file in the list. Each entry says whether it was replaced or deleted, and when.
  3. Press Restore next to it.

Restoring brings that version back into your library as a new file. It stays on the backup too.

Clean up#

Free up space… (on Android Clean up) deletes old versions and everything kept for deleted files on that backup, after you confirm. Do this when you need the space and no longer need to go back. The backup keeps its copy of everything currently in your library.

Trash: mirror and two-way#

On a mirror, a file removed from your library goes to the copy's trash and is deleted for good after 30 days. In a two-way copy a deleted file waits 30 days in Keepfin's trash too. The 30 days count from when that place received the deletion. A version kept because of a conflict is never expired.

The deletion guard#

A sync that would remove or replace a large share of a copy stops and asks first. The copy shows Needs your OK, and the item appears as Large change in Needs review, with Go ahead. If you did not expect it, do not confirm; check the copy first.
