Devices
Download on another device
Pick which of your devices should download a link. Your PC can have the faster connection and the room; your phone does not have to do the work.
Use it#
On Windows
Where Keepfin offers Download for a link or a collection, there is also Download on…, which lists your connected devices that allow it. Choose one. It may offer a choice of its usual place or a space. The progress appears with your downloads.
On Android
Under the Download button there is Download on… when a paired device is connected and allows it. Pick the device. Jobs you sent show in Downloads as Sent to other devices, for example "On Hisham's PC · downloading 40%".
What the other device does#
- The other device checks the link itself, picks its own streams and saves it where its own rules say (or in the space you choose).
- It needs the permission Download here for your device. You allow it on the device that will download.
- Nothing is ever sent automatically. A download only goes to another device when you choose it.
Large files and mobile data#
A phone that is running the download asks you first when it would be big or costly. You may see a question such as "This is large (about 2.4 GB). Allow it?" or "You are on mobile data, and this is about 300 MB. Allow it?" The question appears for a file above about 1 GiB, or when the phone is on a metered connection, and the job waits for you (Waiting for you).
Where the result goes#
The file is saved in the other device's Keepfin folder. If your device keeps that space or playlist (see What a copy keeps), it arrives through syncing. Otherwise it shows as "On Hisham's PC" and you can play it from there.
If you close Keepfin or leave the network, a download already running continues on the other device.
It can say no#
Turn off Download here for a device, and it stops accepting links from it. Each request carries its own id, so a retry after a dropped connection never creates a duplicate job.
